Once upon a time there was a film called The Big Lebowski and it was sort of very good. Okay, it was great. Alright, it was brilliant. If you haven’t watched it you must. There’s a chance you just might like it.

Directed by the Coen brothers, The Big Lebowski has become a cult favourite over the years. It’s divided the opinions of some, but encouraged many leaps of excitement and beer cheers in others, especially when it’s revisited by one of our best friends the TV. But ‘what’s so good about it?’ I hear you ask. ‘Why’s it so special?’ ‘WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?’ I have two words for you and I’m going to say them right this second…The Dude.

The Dude is quite simply very cool, almost as cool as Oscar winning actor Jeff Bridges who plays him. Should you have seen the film and given it your full undivided attention then I’m sure, if you think hard enough, you might be able to remember one of the following things: “Dude, you’re being very undude,” “Phone’s ringin’, Dude,” “What do you do, Mr Lebowski,” …the list goes on… As such, The Dude is someone who has captured the hearts of many a film buff over the years and now, somewhat excitingly, Jeff Bridges along with his friend Bernie Glassman, has written a book all about it. Here’s a little insight for you…

The Dude and the Zen Master by Jeff Bridges and Bernie Glassman

Jeff Bridges is one of the world’s most popular actors and his unforgettable performance as The Dude in Coen Brothers film, The Big Lebowski, made him a cult hero. His remarkable career as an actor, performer and songwriter has brought him an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice award. Away from the spotlight, Bridges is a dedicated practitioner of Zen Buddhism and for more than a decade has been close friends with Zen leader Bernie Glassman. It is Glassman who has helped guide Bridges’ lessons on the path to enlightenment and the two have spent many hours discussing life, love, the movies, creativity, happiness and death.

With wit, charm and profound insight, Bridges and Glassman discover the Zen in iconic scenes and lines from The Big Lebowski. With honesty and humour, Bridges explores how his Zen practice and his life experience inform one another as he discusses his loving relationship with his parents, his marriage, his highly successful career and his warm connection with his fans.
