Transworld Publishers are to release the first ever Girls Aloud book this autumn.
The book, currently called Girls Aloud – Dreams That Glitter – Our Story, is set to be published in October and is the official story of the most successful girl band the UK has ever seen. In the book the girls will give a personal insight into their childhoods, their passion for their music, their love interests, their struggle for recognition, their glamorous party lifestyle and their rock solid friendships. It will chart the girls’ meteoric rise to international superstardom with plenty of style advice and celebrity gossip along the way. Packed full of never-before-seen photos and lavishly illustrated throughout, this book will be a must-read for Girls Aloud fans everywhere.
Girls Aloud say:
‘The past six years have been a real rollecoaster ride for us. It’s been a journey none of us could have imagined and we’ve learnt so much along the way. Our fans have stuck with us since the beginning, and we can’t wait to share with them the story of our lives, both as individuals and as a band, the style tips that keep us looking good, and everything we’ve learnt about life, love and music.’
Sarah Emsley, who commissioned the book for Transworld, says:
‘Girls Aloud are an incredible pop phenomenon with a breathtakingly wide fan base and they are clearly five of the most talented, dedicated and hard working girls around. Having decided the time is right to tell their story, they are determined to do everything they can to promote their book and make it a bestseller this Christmas. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with them on their autobiography and, you never know, I might pick up some style tips along the way too!’

The Matchmaker of Perigord by Julia Stuart, published by Black Swan priced £7.99
This affectionate caricature of French rural life is set in the fictional village of Amour-sur-Belle, a village so ugly that even the English don’t want to live there. We follow the hilarious trials of local barber Guillaume Ladoucette, a down-on-his luck French barber who reinvents himself as a professional matchmaker in a village filled with ancient rivalries as eccentric as the people who hold them. When a wealthy widow moves into the local Chateau, the matchmaker’s heart is torn between his new profession and his own longing to be loved. Stuart has a wonderful eye for detail; this book is perfect for any foodies in the family as it is laden with sumptuous descriptions of French delicacies. The utterly infectious narrative style that means you cannot help but fall in love with all of her characters and their surroundings. This whimsical tale of love and courtship is injected with Stuart’s own unique vigorous brand of va-va-voom which makes this book a must read on the daily commute!

Whilst on the Ritual tour, our favourite crime thriller writer Mo Hayder took a quick break from her busy schedule to reveal exclusively to Betweenthelines her top five favourite crime writers. After much debate, Mo narrowed down her favourites to the five listed below:
THOMAS HARRIS
“Red Dragon, Hannibal Lecter’s first fictional outing is a benchmark for all modern psychological thriller writers.”
PETE DEXTER
“Not ordinarily pigeon-holed as a crime writer, but read “Train” for some of the most startlingly realistic scenes of violence ever written.”
IAN MCEWAN
“Also obviously not marketed as a crime writer, yet read his earlier books, The Cement Garden, for example, to see that he is capable of deploying all the pacing, plot and tension of the traditional crime novel.”
VAL MCDERMID
“Tireless and prolific, McDermid did for the UK what Patricia Cornwell did Stateside: show us that women can do hardboiled just as well as any man.”
KIRINO NATSUO
“Japan’s “Queen of Crime”. To see how the domesticity and cosiness of a novel’s setting heightens the impact of horror, read “Out”.”

What does each and every Transworld publicist have in common with Madonna? No, not flexible joints, a conical bra and a body that looks great in stretch lycra (though the latter is true). No, what I am referring to is Madonna’s recent admission that she bas been secretly doing what every Transworld publicist has been doing for years - sleeping with her blackberry.
It is a universal truth that every publicist with a large number of authors sleeps with a blackberry under her pillow. Forget the Balenciaga handbag, the blackberry or “crackberry” as it has been renamed in the press is essential item number one, yes even more important than our hotline to the reservations manager at Wild Honey.
How else can one respond urgently to a Richard and Judy interview request whilst perusing the wines and spirits aisle in Sainsbury’s? How else can we check the Bookscan Nielsen figures whilst on our daily cappuccino run? And more to the point, how else can we order canapés after waking up in a cold sweat at 5am?
